Description
Toyota Motor Europe NV/SA (TME) oversees the wholesale sales and marketing of Toyota and Lexus vehicles, parts and accessories, and Toyota’s European manufacturing and engineering operations. Toyota directly employs over 25,000 people in Europe and has invested over EUR 10 billion since 1990. Toyota’s operations in Europe are supported by a network of 29 National Marketing and Sales Companies across 53 countries, a total of around 3,000 sales outlets, and eight manufacturing plants. In 2023, TME sold 1,173,419 vehicles in Europe for a 6.7% market share.
Located in Zaventem (Belgium), Technical Centre is home to Toyota’s European Research & Development (R&D). From there, Toyota ensures its cars match European customer’s demands. R&D undertakes body, powertrain, chassis and electronics design, the selection and testing of materials and components, engine evaluation, and the adaptation of the drivability characteristics of all Toyota models.
Role and Key Contribution to the Project
Toyota Motor Europe (TME) will leverage its competencies to contribute to Work Package 2 (WP2) and Work Package 3 (WP3) of the GIANTS project. In WP2, TME will collaborate with Renault, POLIS, and other partners to better understand user focus and mobility needs in urban areas. Based on the outcomes of this collaboration, TME will also support WP3 for the definition of requirements and technical specifications for the development of the new affordable GIANTS L-category EV platform suited for European urban traffic solutions.
