GIANTS Deliverable D2.3 – Paving the Way for Mass Adoption of Frugal EVs
We are excited to announce that Deliverable D2.3, the latest in our series of public deliverables, is now available. This deliverable, prepared by our partners at Renault Group, represents a major milestone in the GIANTS project by establishing the business model and initial pricing framework for the GIANTS platform, as well as initial policy recommendations.
Key Highlights of D2.3:
- Business Model & Pricing: D2.3 defines reference prices for platform components and variants, providing a solid foundation for evaluating economic feasibility and market competitiveness across multiple use cases and geographies. While preliminary, these prices are grounded in industrial knowledge and offer a credible starting point for further refinement.
- Cost Optimisation & Localisation: Opportunities for cost reduction were explored, including design simplification and localised production strategies, particularly relevant for emerging markets such as India.
- Strategic & Technical Synthesis: D2.3 provides the first comprehensive synthesis of the GIANTS platform business model, bridging technological feasibility with real-world deployment. It sets the stage for further refinement in the next Deliverable, D2.4, which will incorporate feedback from demonstrations, stakeholder dialogue, and technical evaluations.
- City Engagement & Initial Policy Recommendations: The deliverable outlines the path for policy engagement and collaboration with cities to support large-scale adoption of frugal LEVs. Initial policy recommendations are provided. Clearer and more favourable regulatory signals for L-category vehicles at EU and national levels are expected to strengthen uptake.
This deliverable highlights both the opportunities and limitations of the current pricing and business approach, supporting the GIANTS platform aligning with broader societal goals such as climate neutrality, sustainable urban mobility, and inclusive innovation.
